Style Basics: Shorts

When it comes to summer fashion, shorts are as basic as a black dress. This summer, I plan to be more playful than usual as it will be the first summer returning to the single-dom and post pandemic (keeping my fingers crossed on that). I want to be comfortable in my own skin and style. What is more fabulous than that!

Eggplant & Zucchini Gnocchi

It had been a while—three months, give or take. I’d stopped developing and testing recipes for a handful of reasons: a hectic schedule, a lack of motivation… and, honestly, a drought of inspiration. I flipped through cookbooks, hoping for a spark, but the truth was, I had almost stopped cooking altogether. One weekend, I wandered through the Hollywood Farmers' Market and picked up two tiny treasures: a baby eggplant and a baby zucchini. They sat in the fridge for days—until the zucchini started to wilt, clearly not built to survive another 48 hours. That was the nudge I needed. The baby eggplant, still holding strong beside its fading companion, caught my eye. What if I turned it into a pasta sauce—something to toss with gnocchi? Slow Cooked Gochujang Chicken

  Created while I was developing a Dakdoritang (Korean spicy chicken stew) recipe for a slow cooker, this dish isn't anything like the stew that I had set out for. Although the ingredients of this delicious chicken dish are certainly Dakdoritang, the flavor and texture turned out unlike Dakdoritang. The thick sauce clung to the chicken drumsticks while the flavor intensified as it slowly cooked for four hours. Not what I intended to develop, this Slow Cooked Gochujang Chicken turned out big in flavor. Sometimes, what we get turns out to be much more interesting than what we intended. I love that word—et. It means and in French. I’m borrowing it to title this essay, to dress up a dreadful topic. If you follow me on Instagram and regularly watch my Stories, you may have noticed that I stopped reading the news for a while. It took time to ease back into my morning routine after the headlines about former Presidents Trump and Gay finally began to fade. It was simply too much… Two of them at once.
